Who loves penguins? Let’s build a new DIY toy following these few simple steps!
1 plywood sheet 3cm thick
a wooden stick with a diameter of 1cm and 1m long
a wooden stick with a diameter of 1cm and 10cm long
a bike inner tube
Acrylic colours and brushes
STEP 1: CUTTING THE SHAPES
Draw a penguin’s profile on the plywood sheet. Cut the penguin with the alternating saw. Sandpaper the penguin’s shape. With the hole saw, cut two wheels with a diameter of 5cm. Then, make a cut 1.5cm long on the wheels as the picture shows and sandpaper them.
STEP 2: PAINTING THE SHAPES
Paint the penguin and the wheels.
STEP 3: THE ASSEMBLY
Now, drill two different holes, one at the base of the penguin and the other on its back. The first one must have a diameter of 12mm, the second one 10mm.
Cut two right triangles from the inner tube, they will be the paws. Fix them into the wheels’ slits with nails as the picture shows. Assemble the wheels with the wooden stick 10cm long and insert the longer stick into the penguin’s back.
